“Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, ‘Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.’ So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three days’ walk” (Jonah 3:1-3).
It is easy for me to see why Jonah was so unwilling to go to Nineveh. Aside from it being an enemy of Israel it was arguably the largest city in the world. How intimidating it must have been for Jonah to approach this great city of his enemies. Besides, he wanted God to destroy it.
But God was adamant because His love is unfailing. Jonah wanted this great city to burn. God wanted them to repent. In the end we know that Jonah finally obeyed and that they repented and were spared.
May we see with the eyes of God when He sends us where we’d rather not go.
