No Greater Joy

“I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth” (3 John 1:4).

It seems such a simple to joy to enjoy the blessings of another.  And yet there are few pleasures that can compare.  This facet of Christian community has, for years, been a source of immeasurable joy.  Watching my brothers and sisters in Christ grow in their understanding and affections for Jesus has been a constant encouragement (and often a challenge!).  It is a blessing that comes without cost or responsibility.  We enjoy it simply because we love them.

By the same token we may never fully know what impact our walks are having on those around us.  When we follow with clear consciences and obey the leading of our Lord we are unconsciously touching the lives of those around us.  Some may be encouraged, others perplexed, some challenged.  But we simply do not live in a bubble.  No matter how isolated we may feel at times there are always lives being touched by our own just as we can never truly separate our lives from those that have touched ours, for better or worse.

But as the scriptures point out, if you’re walking in the truth of Jesus Christ it will be a source of great joy to those that love you.  Especially God.
